Cook shines but England held to draw
England Under-21s maintained their unbeaten start to the Toulon Tournament as they played out a goalless draw with Mexico.
In a game of limited opportunities, both sides were wary of each other in a match largely played out in midfield.
The best chance of the game came in the 20th minute when England goalkeeper Freddy Woodman had to a tip over a fine header from Roberto Alvarado after he had met Uriel Antuna’s corner.
Moments later Mexico captain Cesar Montes headed narrowly wide as Mexico enjoyed a period of pressure in the England half.
Lewis Cook was England’s most creative outlet and he provided halfchances for Eddie Nketiak and Lukas Nmecha, but on both occasions Jose Hernandez made comfortable saves.
The point sees england sit in second place in Group A, behind Mexico on goal difference, with four points from three games.
