Police investigating a fatal crash in Edinburgh involving a stolen car are trying to trace another vehicle seen close to the scene.

Three cars were directly involvedinthecollision, which happened near the Maybury roundabout in Edinburgh at about 12.30am on Friday.

One of the cars, a Peugeot 206, burst into flames and the driver was found dead inside.

Three people in a BMW, including a five-year-old girl, were taken to hospital for treatment after the crash.

An Audi A3, which was being driven recklessly and caused the crash, was found abandoned in Cowdenbeath, Fife, hours after the crash. It had been stolen in Edinburgh in April and detectives are hunting for its occupants during the crash. Officers are also trying to trace a small, dark car that was travelling on Maybury Road towards Barnton around the time of the crash.

Det Insp Graham Grant said: “My officers are leaving no stone unturned as we look to identify those who were within the stolen Audi A3 and the public can help with our efforts by coming forward if they’ve seen the vehicle which, at the time of the collision, had the number plate SM17 EAK.

“Similarly, if members of the public have seen the Audi since it was stolen from the Liberton area on April 17 then please get in touch.”
