The Rise and Fall of Little Voice
The second show to open in this year’s Pitlochry season, Gemma Fairlie’s production of Jim Cartwright’s 1992 play about a young girl with a magical voice growing up in a northern back-to-back, under the thumb of her terrible good-timegirl Mum Mari, is a terrific piece of working-class drama with a touch of glorious showbiz glamour. Laura Costello gives a brilliantly poignant performance as LV, with River City’s Deirdre Davis in eye-popping tragicomic form as Mari; in a show that demonstrates the sheer range and versatility of the Pitlochry ensemble at its best.
