- By EMMA NEWLANDS

The company buying Standard Life Aberdeen’s UK and European insurance arm has revealed the top team that will manage the enlarged business on the deal’s completion.

Phoenix Group is in the process of acquiring Standard Life Assurance, and said the deal is expected to close in the third quarter.

Susan Mcinnes, an existing member of the Phoenix executive committee, will become chief executive of Standard Life Assurance and take up her new role at the Edinburgh office when the transaction completes.

Jim Mcconville, Phoenix group finance director, will continue in this role, and take on additional duties as group director, Scotland. Two Standard Life Assurance employees are joining the executive committee – Jonathan Pears, who will replace Mcinnes as Phoenix group chief risk officer, and John Mcguigan – and Andy Moss remains chief executive of Phoenix Life.

Bannister said the appointments, which bring the number of committee members to 11, will underpin the Phoenix management team.
