Man jailed for shooting spree with paintball gun

Amanwhosho­tamotherwi­th a paintball gun as she walked the West Highland Way has been jailed.

Anthony Rasmussen, 24, fired at 47-year-old Miriam Bell during the shooting spree betweengla­sgowandcar­beth in June last year.

Six shots were fired from the Audi car he was in.

Mrs Bell was hit on the hip and said she believed she had been shot by an air rifle.

Rasmussen – a father-of-two from Clydebank – also injured 59-year-old Elizabeth Hayes, who was also walking on the same route, by shooting her twice to the ribcage, on the elbow and side of her face.

Mrs Hayes suffered bruising to her ribcage and the shots to her elbow and temple broke the skin and her head needed stitches.

He pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to seven charges and was yesterday jailed for 18 months.

Rasmussena­lsofiredpa­intat Daniel Malone, 21, in Knightswoo­d, Richard Wood, 63, and Scott Wilkie, 18 in Bearsden, 55-year-old Mary Summers in Clydebank and at a car in Carbeth during the shooting spree.

Police had been informed of all the incidents and inquiries carried out across CCTV.

Mrs Bell identified Rasmussen from a photo board and he was detained in July for questionin­g.
