An appeal has been launched for images of the blaze which ripped through Glasgow School of Art’s Mackintosh building. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service made the plea for footage and pictures to be made available for expert investigators to analyse.

Everyone laments the loss? It was an ugly, outdated monstrosity and clearly a fire hazard biding its time. Wooden air ducts, in 2018, even after refurbishment? At times like this people put on the rose tinted spectacles and want to reinstate a replica of the previous incarnation. How about creating a park with installations? The School of Art needs to be reinvented in a modern genre, elsewhere, I’m sure Mr Mackintosh would agree.

Mike Allan All very well asking for footage of the fire itself, but I hope the investigators have already obtained any CCTV footage covering the surrounding streets over the hours before it started. If the cause is found to be arson, it will be needed to identify potential perpetrators.

Colinbattle Knock it down and let the surrounding businesses and residents get on with their lives. It was only a building, time to move on.
