Cohen ‘loyal to family and US’ over Trump
Donald Trump’s long-time personal lawyer, who once said he would do anything to protect the president, has said he now puts “family and country first”.
In Michael Cohen’s first interview since federal agents raided his home and hotel room as part of an inquiry into his personal business dealings, he was asked what he would do if prosecutors forced him to choose between protecting the president and protecting his family.
Mr Cohen said previously he was so loyal to Mr Trump he would “take a bullet for him”.
But in an off-camera interview Mr Cohen told George Stephanopoulos of ABC News: “My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will.”
Mr Cohen is under investigation for possible bank and tax fraud, as well as possible violation of election law, reportedly relating to paying off porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election, which could count as an illegal contribution to Mr Trump’s campaign.
