Murray and Soares bow out

- By EVE FODENS

Jamie Murray’s “doubles double” dream is over. After coming back from 1-5 down in the final set of the mixed doubles with Victoria Azarenka, the Scot could not quite repeat the feat in the men’s.

Murray and his partner, Bruno Soares (Brazil), fought out a five-set thriller with Raven Klassen (South Africa) and Michael Venus (New Zealand) in the quarter-finals.

Although they managed to survive two match points under the Centre Court roof, they were eventually beaten 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Murray and Azarenka resume their bid in the mixed doubles today against Matwe Middelkoop (Netherlands) and Johanna Larsson (Sweden).
