Orange-ments
Edinburgh Secular Society has often criticised Catholic schools for their contribution
to the shame that is Scotland’s sectarianism.
We must equally point the finger at Orange walks. Despite a recent attack on a priest in Glasgow, rerouting the march has been opposed by the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland, which claims it would limit their “freedom of expression”.
We must ask if these tribal and antagonistic events would be tolerated at all were it not for their religious content which, as usual, seems to trump all reason.
