Licence to build: Lego launches James Bond Aston Martin DB5

-

Bond and brick fans rejoice, Lego has revealed its latest movie tie-in – the Aston Martin DB5 made famous by everyone’s favourite superspy.

The replica of the world-famous Aston joins the Back to the Future Delorean and Ghostbusters’ Ecto-1 ambulance in the list of iconic movie vehicles to get their own Lego sets.

Following some spy-like cloak and dagger teasing this week, the new model was officially unveiled by Moneypenny herself, Naomie Harris, at the Lego Store, London last week.

The £130 model spy car is the latest in Lego’s Creator Expert series and is based upon the car that first appeared in 1964’s Goldfinger so you’re practically required to put on your best Sean Connery voice while building it.

While the 1,290-piece set might lack some of the graceful curves of the real thing it does feature many of the gadgets that made the Bond car such a cinematic icon. The pop-out machine guns, bulletproof screen, tyre scythes and ejector seat are all replicated in 1:8 scale brickwork.

Lego designer Michael Psiaki said: “The iconic status of James Bond’s DB5 makes this car a perfect fit for the Lego Creator Expert series.”

The Aston is the latest motoring tie-in from the Danish toy brand, which earlier this year revealed a 1:8 Technic model of the Bugatti Chiron hypercar. It has previously recreated other iconic vehicles including the Porsche 911, Ferrari F40, VW Beetle and Mini Cooper.
