Canning too loyal

- Gilbert Mowat

After an embarrassing Betfred cup campaign, it was hoped that the start of the league season would show an improvement in our fortunes. While we were terrific in the first half against Hearts, with Sam Kelly, Scott Mcmann and especially Mickel Miller combining very well, it all fell apart after that, with Steven Naismith a class ahead of everyone else.

Sometimes you just have to concede that the other guys were better than you. Martin Canning’s team had better get going soon or we’re in for a painful time. It might be that he has been too loyal to some of last season’s underperforming team for too long.

Motherwell are up next and will fancy their chances but, our record at Fir Park isn’t too bad, so this one could be a belter.
