Brussels sprouts: Belgian capital hosts Mexican-inspired flower carpet
More than 500,000 flowers have been used to create a Latin American-themed display in the Grand Place in Brussels.
The work is dedicated to the Mexican region of Guanajuato which has an exceptionally rich culture and flower tradition.
The Renaissance square is covered with a flower carpet of begonias every second year.
There were concerns that this year’s display was going to be affected by the warm weather being experienced across Europe.“it has been extremely difficult. Until ten days ago, people were afraid that we were not going to have enough flowers,” said Troch Peters, a Belgium-based flower wholesaler. “Luckily, in the last two weeks the weather changed.”
