My festival Matt Price

-

Ionlyhavetimetoseeone show in Edinburgh. Why should I go to yours? Nobody has a story like this. So it’s unique and I think it’s unexpected. People see me as a big humble giant and this is partly the story of why I’m the way I am. It’s also a story that I never thought I could tell on stage or make funny, but I believe that I have.

Now I think of it, I’ve got time to see two. What else should I definitely go to? Martha Mcbrier (my missus) who has a show at the Counting House Lounge at 7:15pm. You’ll see the person I talk about in my show and she also has a great show.

What are the best and worst things that have happened to you at the Edinburgh festival? Meeting my partner in 2005 is the best thing that has happened to me. As for the worst, I had one year where I had to cancel my show as it was outside and the venue owner wanted to have a barbecue instead. It makes me smile now.

Please describe where you’re living this month. I’m living in a one-bedroom flat with Martha. It’s compact. It’s close to where I need to be and there is a supermarket just around the corner. I’m hoping the person who rented it to us sends a postcard from their holiday in the Bahamas.

What’s your favourite place in the city and why? It could sound really corny but I enjoy the standing on stage and making people laugh bit. There is still something very special about doing that at the Festival and that’s my favourite place to be. Some of the late night shows especially can be rowdy and fun and I love that.

Who do you most like spending time with at the festival?

It’s a great chance to catch up with all my pals from the comedy circuit. If it wasn’t for the festival and being in one place for a month, there would be people who I wouldn’t see for years.

Where can I find you at 9am, 9pm and 2am?

9am: In bed.

9pm: Eating somewhere after my show and possibly on the way to another gig to a guest spot.

2am: I don’t like to admit it, but in bed.

Tell us something about you that would surprise people.

I had two invitations to compete in the world skateboarding championships when I was teenager. I have footage of me skateboarding and still people don’t believe it’s me. In fact, I can hardly believe it myself as it was that long ago.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning? Igetupat5amanddomy yoga, followed by an hour of power where I do positive affirmations then go power walking. That’s actually not true. I don’t do mornings that well. I creak out of bed and take an hour or so to wake up, then I go for a long walk. I enjoy it. It helps me think.

Thanks for the interview! I’d like to buy you a drink. Where are we going and what are we drinking?

I think that we should head down to Leith to the Port O’leith. Great place for a drink or two. Guaranteed story afterwards. I’ll start with a pint of pale ale and avoid dancing on the tables as I forget how heavy I am when I’ve had a few.
