Springboks make one change for Argentina rematch

- By GARETH BLACK

South Africa have made one change to their starting team for the return test against Argentina in the Rugby Championship, recalling lock Franco Mostert.

Mostert, who has come off a long Super Rugby season with the Lions, was rested for the Springboks’ 34-21 win over the Pumas in Durban.

He will team up with Eben Etzebeth in the second row for tomorrow’s game in Mendoza. With Mostert starting, Pieter-steph du Toit drops to the bench in place of flanker Marco van Staden, who is out of the 23. South Africa coach Rassie Erasmus made two other changes on the bench, with lock RG Snyman in for Marvin Orie and prop Wilco Louw replacing Thomas du Toit.

Erasmus kept changes to a minimum in yesterday’s team selection, retaining the same loose forward combination and backline. He said: “I want us to build more continuity and those combinations now have another opportunity to play together and gain more experience.”

Argentina have provided tough opposition for the Springboks in Mendoza, a city in the foothills of the Andes. The first game between the teams in 2012 was a 16-16 draw and the Springboks won narrowly, 22-17, in 2013.

0 Franco Mostert: Recalled.
