-

Revellers are pelted with tomatoes as they lie on a tomato puree covered street during thetomatinafestivalinbunol, Spain, yesterday.

The iconic annual fiesta that takes place on the last Wednesday of August has been billed as “the world’s biggest food fight”, becoming a major draw for foreigners, in particular from the UK, Japan and the US. More than 20,000 revellers took part in the epic Spanish street festival, throwing tomatoes at each other until they were red in the face.

The streets were painted red with tomato pulp as huge crowds frolicked in over-ripe tomatoes for several hours.
