The End of Eddy

- Joyce Mcmillan

After winning huge acclaim at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival, this latest show from Untitled Projects – adapted by Pamela Carter and directed by Stewart Laing – is already on tour around Scotland, before travelling on to London and Dublin. Based on Edouard Louis’s award-winning 2014 novel, The End of Eddy tells the story – painful yet powerfully uplifting – of a gay boy growing up in a depressed ex-industrial village in France; and it’s brilliantly staged here by one of Scotland’s finest directors, with the help of video genius Finn Ross, and two terrific performances from Alex Austin and Kwaku Mills. Lemon Tree, Aberdeen, tonight, and on tour until 8 September, www.untitledprojects.co.uk
