Tributes were paid to BBC presenter Rachael Bland, who has died aged 40 after a two-year battle with cancer. The mum-of-one was a newsreader and presenter on Radio 5 Live, and co-hosted a podcast which was praised for its honest portrayal of the disease.
@Bbclbicker wrote: “Rachael Bland was a voice we all needed to hear. Bright, funny, feisty. She allowed us to have a frank conversation about cancer with those closest to us. Sending all my love to her family right now.”
@Strictlysid added: “I didn’t even know who she was until a few days ago but reading about Rachael Bland wrapping presents for her two-year-old son all the way to his 21st birthday has absolutely destroyed me.”
@Checongeuro posted: “Rachael Bland said: ‘I’m not scared of dying. I only fear for those who I leave behind.’ I’m moved by her fight against cancer and the lost of such a brilliant woman, who taught us to talk about death without fear. Rest in peace brave girl!”
@Claremcdonnel1 agreed: “So much of our lives are driven by fear: of being judged, laughed at, of not knowing. Rachael took massive strides for all of us in taking some of the fear out of cancer, so so sorry she’s gone.”
#PMQS
Prime Minister’s Questions returned for the first time since the House of Commons’ summer recess as Theresa May faced her weekly grilling from MPS. Jeremy Corbyn pushed Mrs May on her approach to Brexit as the prospect of a ‘no deal’ departure from the EU continues to loom large.
@Hapoel2018 wrote: “When i see Corbyn on #PMQS I realise how different he is both to how the media portray him and how some of his Ultra-supporters portray him. He is calm, intelligent & very compassionate, not only concerned with one issue but with all the issues that affect people’s lives.”
@Kathsamsonitv reported: “SNP’S Ian Blackford tells the Prime Minister her Chequers plan is more unpopular in Scotland than the poll tax but also ‘as dead as a dodo’.”
@Drrosena agreed: “Theresa May reiterated that a ‘no deal’ scenario ‘wouldn’t be the end of the world’. This does nothing to reassure hard working people up and down the country that she isn’t hell bent on driving our economy off the Brexit cliff. But all is OK, our passports will be blue.”
