Massive win flattered us, admits County coach
Stirling County, who had to miss a Shogun Conference weekend because of the odd number of clubs in the league, returned to the fray on Saturday with a renewed hunger and overwhelmed Hamilton 91-19.
But despite the margin, County head coach Stewart Milne considered that the scoreline flattered his side. “Hamilton’s performance, particularly at the start of the second half, was excellent. But, as the score does suggest, County were clinical in attack.” he said.
Stirling’s 15-try haul included four for wing Aidan Adams and a hat-trick for centre Keir Singleton.
At Millbrae, Ayr U18s maintained their unbeaten start with a 33-12 win over West of Scotland with tries from hooker Scott Clelland, wings Johnny Easton (2) and Chris Easton, and stand-off Billy Jackson. Mikey Heron and Euan Wallace scored for West.
Highland got their first win this season at U18 level –a43-22homedefeatofbiggar. Wings Cameron Macintosh (2) and Jack Miller, flanker Owain Leeming (2) and centre Niall Doherty (2) scored the Highland tries. Biggar, however, won the U16 match 60-0.
In schools rugby Merchiston opened their Colt Conferencecampaignwith an impressive 52-7 away win over Dollar at first XV level, with tries from fullback Rory Stewart-cox (2), hooker Doug Tidy, back row Fin Stewart, prop George Kyriazi, wing Marcus Cornelius, lock Hector Skipworth and replacement wing David Taylor. Stand-off Rory Thain converted five of his side’s tries.
In an Edinburgh derby George Watson’s College defeated Stewart’s-meville with tries by Alex Harley, Jamie Stephen, Ryan Daly, Jonny Roberts, Angus Hoffie (2) and Cammy Scott. For Stew-mel, No 8 Mikey Jones scored the only try. The other U18 match in the Colt Conference resulted in a 21-10 win for Strathallan over Edinburgh Academy.
Dundee High opened the Eclipse Conference season with a 41-7 win over Bellbaxter with tries from Malcolm Nimmo (2), Ian Robertson (2), Reece Mclennnan and Lewis Collins.
