Hopes for 100 jobs at former dog food site

- By PERRY GOURLEY

Plans have been unveiled to create a new retail park on the site of the former Nestle dog food factory in Barrhead.

Glasgow-based property developer London & Scottish Investments (LSI) said the £12 million plans for the site, which has lain derelict for 12 years, would create around 100 new jobs.

B&M has already committed to opening a store on the Glasgow Road retail park and London & Scottish said it was in advanced discussions with a national food retailer. It said the Glasgow Road retail park would also include two drive-through restaurants and a pub with occupiers to be announced in coming months.

A planning application has been submitted to East Renfrewshire’s planning committee and, if successful, LSI is hoping to start work early in the new year.

Bryan Wilson, development director with LSI, said “It will provide a tremendous jobs boost for the town.”
