BBC host receives death threats over identity mix

- By SAM RUSSELL

A BBC presenter has received online death threats after being mistaken for a French rapper who released a music video called Pendez Les Blancs, which translates as “hang the whites”.

Radio Norfolk presenter Nick Conrad told listeners to his breakfast show he received the abusive messages after a rapper, also called Nick Conrad, caused uproar in France with his song lyrics.

“Apparently he said in some song that we should be quote unquote ‘killing white babies’,” Mr Conrad said. “So total condemnation of his lyrics and you can imagine there’s been uproar about this in France.

“Well, people have taken to the likes of Twitter to vent their frustrations and fury at Mr Conrad and rather than directing it at him, I’m getting it and I’m getting it both barrels and I’m getting death threats in French.”

Mr Conrad, describing the rapper’s lyrics as “downright abhorrent”, said he was now “seeing the funny side” of the situation. The video has been removed from Youtube.
