Boris Johnson has denounced Theresa May’s Chequers plan for EU withdrawal as an “outrage” that would leave the UK “locked in the tractor beam of Brussels”. The former Foreign Secretary warned that the only winners from a Chequers-style Brexit would be the far right and far left in British politics.

@Angelinaandme tweeted to Boris: “You resigned when the Brexit victory was announced in 2016, like a rat jumping ship, leaving the country in freefall. The country should not forget that.”

@Danieljenks89 added: “Like Cameron, he is abandoning the sinking ship.”

@dardon01 commented: “He’s an idiot. What a time to cause a circus. Real lives are affected by these decisions and he’s just making a joke of it all, as he always does and then after he’s finished creating the storm he’ll be hiding out the way. Keep up the good work Theresa May. There is no one else.”

@Barnymartez commented: “‘Chuck Chequers’ is the soundbite the fickle and flighty Boris Johnson thinks the general public wants to hear today. Don’t take it as a hard position, he’ll be saying something completely different in a few months time.”

Police Scotland are keen to reopen talks with the SPFL over the semi-finals of the Betfred Cup. The decision by the SPFL to host both semifinal matches on the same day at the same venue has come under much scrutiny.

@jamiegreeneuk tweeted: “The decision to host both Betfred Cup semi-finals at #Hampdenpark on the same day presents huge challenges to our police force and transport network. It’s pretty clear from listening to MSPS today that there needs to be a serious rethink about potential options.”

@Screamnevermore replied: “There are also local residents to consider. Getting out and about around Hampden is bad enough when there’s one big match on, let alone two.”

@Bromsgrovebhoy wrote: “So fans near and far make plans to go to games – planes, trains (if there are any) and automobiles. Hotels too! To now possibly change the (horrendous) schedule is crazy since fans will have made arrangements. Fans are the lifeblood of the game and are treated abominably.”
