Campbell hits out at officials after draw

-

Arbroath ended the first quarter of the season in top spot but manager Dick Campbell was disappointed his side dropped two points at closest challengers Raith Rovers in Saturday’s 1-1 draw.

The Red Lichties were denied a first-half penalty when a charging run by Jason Thomson was halted and referee Craig Napier booked the player for simulation.

Bobby Linn struck for Arbroath 11 minutes from time but Raith levelled a few minutes later in controversial circumstances. Kevin Nisbet turned the ball in after a run and cross by Regan Hendry, during which the ball looked to have gone out of play.

Campbell, who was sent to the stand for his protests, said: “It was a definite penalty and their players have said the ball was half a yard out. It was a massive game refereed by inexperienced officials.”

East Fife won 4-0 at Forfar, where Kevin Smith, Scott Agnew and Rory Currie scored before the break and Agnew scored again after it.

Brechin enjoyed a 3-1 comeback success at Airdrie ,who took the lead through Joao Vitoria only for Andy Jackson’s double and Sean Burns’ fine strike to win the day.

Dumbarton’s troubled season continued with a 3-2 defeat at Stranraer. The hosts were ahead through Grant Anderson and David Brownlie but were pegged back by Ross Forbes and Dom Thomas goals, before Paul Crossan hit the winner.

Mark Mcguigan scored an injury-time winner as Stenhousemuir came off the bottom of the table by defeating visitors Montrose 3-2.
