Sevilla the team to catch in La Liga

-

Sevilla moved to the top of La Liga last night after big guns Real Madrid and Barcelona slipped up over the weekend.

Goals either side of the break from Pablo Sarabia and Wissam Ben Yedder gave Seville a 2-1 victory over ten-man Celta Vigo, who had Nestor Araujo dismissed in the 58th minute.

A fifth win of the season moved them on to 16 points, one ahead of Barcelona, who drew 1-1 at Valencia last night, and Atletico Madrid, who won 1-0 at Real Betis Balompie. Real Madrid had played on Saturday and are a further point back following a

1-0 defeat at Deportivo Alaves.

Barcelona fell behind in the second minute when Ezequiel Garay tapped in at the back post. Lionel Messi, pictured, secured a point for his side in the 23rd minute, firing a shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

In Italy, Napoli moved back within six points of Serie A leaders Juventus thanks to a 2-0 win over Sassuolo yesterday, Adam Ounas and Lorenzo Insigne grabbing the goals. Juve were 2-0 winners at Udinese on Saturday. Celtic’s Europa League rivals RB Leipzig moved up to second place in the Bundesliga with a 6-0 thrashing of Nurnberg – matching Celtic’s scoreline from Perth.
