Journalist India Willoughby praised the British Empire after calls for Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory to be dropped from the Last Night of the Proms.

@blub9999 said: “Hear hear India!”

@Browns88s said: “Genocide, rape, murder, slavery, famine, disease, racism all offend me.”

@annaloveshome said:

“If you don’t agree with everything Black Lives Matter say you are now racist. It’s got to the point that so many are now racist towards anyone white. The world’s gone mad. I was bullied by a black girl at school for years yet I never made it about race. It was someone just being a d***.”

@saphirial245 tweeted: “Land of hope and glory is a hymn. Rule Britania is a patriotic song, where on earth is the racism? Yet again the Marxists are trying to destroy our history and culture. They will start burning books next.”

@schmiffy12 said: “Ironically, if it wasn’t for British colonialism tens of thousands of people wouldn’t have the automatic right to come and live here.”

@scottmacmusic replied: “And millions wouldn’t have been murdered.” @Ellydavis said: “Pity we can’t come up with more modern lyrics that represent the country and its people today.”

#DUNDEE

Seventeen teachers at a special school in Dundee are reported to have contracted Covid-19.

@balmachreuchie tweeted: “I thought that a spokesperson for The Virus had announced that it was going to stay away from schools, and as a goodwill gesture it was going to stop all this ‘asymptomatic transmission’ nonsense it was up to. It denied ever being interested in kids, too.”

@Mereite said: “This is the very scenario the government doesn’t want people to know about. They’re in denial if they think they can insist schools open and stay open.”

@stuartggray noted: “Trouble with special schools is that there is a lot of close quarter work.”

@stephen341 replied: “Yes and without assuming anything about these pupils, less likely to understand social distancing measures. It worries me how many pupils here may have physical health needs.”

@lissehoneymann crowed: “And... hands up those who saw this coming a mile off.”
