Fears over future of care funding

There are “real concerns” over funding for social care and education after the Covid- 19 pandemic, MSPS have been told.

Appearing before t he Local Government and Communitie­s Committee yesterday, Accounts Commission chair woman Elma Murray said initial findings show the two sectors have been hit hard by the Covid crisis. While she said the full outlook for both fields will not be presented until next year, Ms Murray added there are worries about the future of social care and education - both of which are funded by local authoritie­s.

Responding to a question from committee convener James Dornan on the impact Covid- 19 has had on local government, she told MSPS: “Social care has been extensivel­y impacted by Covid- 19. It’s fair to say t hat t here are real concerns around social care in the future.”
