Intolerable

-

It should be pointed out to Douglas Ross MP that there are four railway lines offering passenger services in abundance in normal cir cumstances between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

In addition to the E&G, the first main line linking the cities that dates from 1842, there are the lines via Bath gate, via Cumber nauld and via Shotts. All have been electrified, beginning with the route through Airdrie and Bathgate that was energised in December 2006.

When the re-opening of the “A to B” route was under discussion, the threat of increasing the number of carriage - ways on the M8 arose.

Thankfully, this suggestion was rejected. It is intolerable when the “green planet” is in peril, to have a politician propose such a destructive scheme to treble the carriageways.

This could lead to a Los Angeles-like system of concrete and Tarmac b et ween the cities, with the potential ruination of the surrounding environment.
