Indy activist charged over airport banner

An independen­ce activist has been arrested and charged f or unveiling a banner reading “England Get Out of S cotland” at Edinburgh Airport.

S ean Clerkin, 59, was a r r e s t e d b y p o l i c e a t 7: 30am yesterday, in connection with the stunt at Scotland’s largest airport on 20 August.

Clerkin was charged with displaying an offensive banner and breaking an Edinburgh Airport bylaw by displaying a banner without permission.

He was arrested and taken from his home in Barr he a d , Eas t Renf r e wshire, to Helen Street Police Station in Glasgow to be interviewe­d, and was later charged. The Action for Scotland activist has since been released.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “A 59- yearold man has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident at Edinburgh Airport.”
