Police extend search for teen missing since 1976

De t e c t ive s i nve s t i g a t i n g t h e d i s a p p e a r a n c e o f a young mother more than 40 years ago are extending their search to a residential area in West Dunbartonshire.

M a r y D u n c a n w a s 1 7 years old when she disappeared from her home in Alexandria in 1976.

The teenager, who had a 13-month-old daughter, vanished after telling her f a mi l y s h e wa s g o i n g t o meet a friend.

Her daughter later died of natural causes.

No trace of Mary has ever been found despite extensive inquiries.

O n 1 7 A u g u s t , p o l i c e a n n o u n c e d t h e y w e r e s e a r c h i n g a n u m b e r o f sites at the Vale of Leven Hospital in Alexandria.

Detectives have extended the search to include a residential site in Helensburgh, which started yesterday.
