The ban on background music being played in hospitalit­y venues, introduced by the Scottish Government to reduce the risk of people spreading coronaviru­s from shouting at each other, has incurred the wrath of some Scottish pub-goers.

They should count their blessings. We Sassenachs can only dream of enjoying a drink where we can hear ourselves think, and where what we are saying can be heard, as pubs without non-stop music are now all but extinct.
