Free publicity

-

As I have made the same point in your columns before, it will be no surprise to hear that I’m in complete agreement with your correspondent, Andrew Gray ( Letters, 18 September) that the First Minister is well aware that, as he says, “free publicity is oxygen to public figures.”

So I’ m disappointed by the BBC’S change of mind in restoring her shop window. Presumably it’s a reaction to the usual flood of embittered criticism of BBC Scotland from Ms Sturgeon’s supporters.

But one f act should give them pause for thought– her daily lecture isn’t working ! The proof is the growing number of virus spikes across Scotland and news that last weekend police had to disrupt more than 400 gatherings which the First Minister described as a “danger to life.” Perhaps more people would heed advice if it came from the health experts themselves, people who express themselves equally well and have no shadow of a political agenda over their appearances.

The BBC has conceded that views from across the political spectrum must be given air time in addition to the Scottish Government daily Covid briefing.

Will Alister Jack come on at the end to advise us to go hunting, shooting and fishing as we will be safer in the fresh air?
