Scorched earth: More evacuation­s as California wildfire covers 93,000 acres

New evacuation­s have been ordered for residents in the foothills of California as the Bob cat Fire continued to spread.

The wildfire is now threatenin­g homes in the area as firefighte­rs battled to bring it under control.

High winds and poor visibility have hampered efforts to contain the blaze, which has covered more than 93,000 acres, churning through thick vegetation and dr y brush in steep terrain, some of which has not burned in more 60 years.

The cause is under investigat­ion. More than 1,600 firefighte­rs are battling the blaze.
