Brave Ivar being true to himself

-

Good for the Queen’s cousin, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, who revealed in The Mail on Sunday last week that he is gay, and in doing so became the first person in the extended Royal Family to come out.

He has been brave because coming out of the closet can elicit a variety of reactions, from the highly supportive to the negative. Everybody’s situation is unique, everyone’s family and friends are different.

For some people, Lord Ivar’s sexuality won’t be an issue, but for others it might be difficult to understand and they may take time to accept what he’s telling them. And of course, telling people is always a challenge. Those you trust come first. Then parents. Then everybody else. It can be exhausting.

Good for Lord Ivar for being true to himself.
