Phone, gym, TV...I’m part of the PAYG generation

-

DEBORAH Manson has embraced the pay-as-you-go world.

When her mobile contract came to an end last year she switched to a pay-as-you-go arrangement. The move is saving her £360 a year.

The 30-year-old public relations executive from Hackney, East London, says: ‘I was not using all the minutes and texts available on my £50 a month plan. So I decided to look elsewhere and found a deal called ‘rocket pack’ with Tesco Mobile. For £20 a month top-up I get 4GB of data, 2,000 minutes and 5,000 texts, all of which is plenty.’

Deborah likes being able to stop and start the deal when she chooses. She says: ‘When I went travelling to Barcelona and the US last year, I opted out so I did not need to pay for something I was not using.’

Deborah says many of her friends are choosing a pay-as-you- go lifestyle. She says: ‘They don’t like being tied in. I take the same approach with my gym membership and use a gym where I can just pay for a bundle of classes instead of being tied into a long-term contract. At home I watch films and television programmes through streaming service Netflix, where I pay a monthly subscription but if I get fed up I can cancel easily.’
