E-cigarette dangers

-

As a mother, I was taken aback by your E-cigarette investigation last week. E-cigarettes are incredibly addictive and dangerous, and retailers should be treating them exactly the same as normal cigarettes.

It is very worrying that so many unquestioningly sold the products to a 17-year-old. There have been lots of reports of unknown chemicals in E-cigarettes, and of them leaking and exploding – and people really don’t have a clue yet about the potential health effects.

It is shocking they are not being monitored more carefully. These devices are supposed to help people give up smoking, but they are becoming ‘cool’ and some people are using them who have never smoked before. Flavoured ones, like berry and fruit types, are almost enticing youngsters into buying them. Stores need to be aware of this and be held accountable if they are selling to teenagers. If somebody sold them to my son when he was 17, I would be incredibly angry. Amy Rooney, Ullapool, Ross-shire.
