Six big storms by Christmas
SCOTLAND faces its stormiest autumn for years with hurricaneforce 90mph-plus wind gusts triggering fears of a repeat of the mayhem in 2011.
After Storm Aileen’s deluges last week, six more named storms were forecast by Christmas – with Scotland bearing the brunt.
Tyler Roys, of commercial forecasting giants AccuWeather, said: ‘Storm centres will travel just north of Scotland, leading rain to batter much of Scotland each time they pass through.’
The next six storms will be called Brian, Caroline, Dylan, Eleanor, Fionn and Georgina.
The chaos triggered by the fierce storms of 2011 saw 150,000 homes losing power, and buses and planes grounded in gusts up to 165mph.
