Diver dies at Scapa wreck
A DIVER has died after getting into trouble off Orkney.
The man was pulled from the sea at Scapa Flow after a mayday to vessels in the area on Friday afternoon.
A coastguard paramedic winched onto the RNLI rescue boat confirmed his death.
The victim, who has not yet been named, had been exploring a wreck north east of Cava Lighthouse.
The alarm was raised at 4pm when his boat reported him 15 minutes overdue.
A lifeboat from nearby Longhope and a rescue helicopter from Sumburgh, Shetland, attended. An RNLI spokesman said: ‘The diver was treated with respect and dignity and taken to Stromness.
‘RNLI Longhope would like to offer their condolences and deepest sympathy to his family, friends and loved ones.’
