Strict mums blamed over fat children
STRICT mothers are more likely to have overweight children, a study suggests.
Pre-school youngsters with an overbearing parent are almost five times more likely to over-eat as parental pressure does not allow them to develop self-control, say researchers at Istanbul’s MEF University.
‘Authoritarian parenting limits a child’s self-control which increases their risk of being obese or overweight,’ concluded the study, reported in the journal Appetite. Nearly a third of children aged two to 15 in the UK are overweight.
