KNIFE-WIELDING robbers dragged a motorist from his car before driving off in it, in a late-night attack.

The carjacking took place in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, on Wednesday, around 10.45pm.

Detectives investigating the theft yesterday described the robbery as ‘violent’ and appealed to the public for help.

The 23-year-old driver had been sitting in the black Mazda 3 when he was approached by two men carrying knives. They pulled him out of his vehicle before quickly driving off from the scene.

The carjackers were both wearing balaclavas and were dressed in black.

Detective Constable Stephen Scullion said: ‘Although nobody was hurt, this attack was frightening, violent and has left a man without his car. Officers have been working to try to recover the vehicle, as well as those responsible.’

Police believe there were people in the area at the time of the incident. They are particularly keen to speak to a woman who was driving a small dark blue car around the time of the attack and who spoke to the victim.
