SNP could hand Sinn Fein power
THErESa May’s deputy has warned the SNP’s Brexit demands would give Sinn Fein unprecedented power over UK laws and trade.
David Lidington has said it was a ‘mistake’ to offer the Irish republicans a veto over vital policies affecting jobs and lives across the UK.
He also warned the SNP against using the Brexit row to demand a second independence referendum, signalling No10 would block another SNP request.
Nicola Sturgeon has demanded a Brexit veto in 24 policy areas but the UK Government has warned that would apply also to Northern Ireland and Sinn Fein if power-sharing resumes at Stormont. Mr Lidington said: ‘That is just not a sensible way to proceed.’
