Fresh hope for protesters in homes battle
TENS of thousands of protesters fighting plans to build luxury properties in a nationally treasured park have claimed an important victory against the landowners, Liverpool City Council.
Calderstones Park on Merseyside, which featured in The Mail on Sunday’s campaign last month, has a stunning variety of woodland, including a 1,000-year-old tree.
At a judicial hearing last week before Mr Justice Kerr at the High Court in Manchester, barristers for the council conceded much of the disputed land fell within the park’s boundaries. Protest organiser Caroline Williams said she was now ‘optimistic’ about winning the fight.
