‘Britain’s FBI’ boss rewarded for stings

-

BRITAIN’s most senior female crime fighter has had her contract extended after masterminding the string of swoops on organised criminals.

Lynne Owens, right, will continue to head up the National Crime Agency (NCA) – dubbed Britain’s FBI – until at least 2022 after taking over in 2016.

Her term was due to expire this year but it was extended after she impressed the Home Secretary, Priti Patel, with her successes tackling drug gangs and cyber criminals.

The series of NCA raids that hit the headlines last week, was the largest ever law-enforcement operation in the UK.

Other recent NCA successes include the biggest-ever drug seizure in Northern Ireland with 600 kilos of cannabis taken off the streets. Last night, a police source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Over the past few months we have seen what a first-class law enforcement leader Lynne Owens is. It is great news for the public that she is expected to stay at the NCA helm – and bad news for criminals.’
