Thug attacked pair who confronted him

A HEAVILY pregnant woman was punched in the stomach after confronting a man for dropping litter.

The thug struck her in the head, and when she told him she was pregnant hit her belly as well.

He then turned on the man she was with, and punched him, causing a serious facial injury. The woman suffered minor injuries.

The victims, both in their 20s, were taken to hospital following the attack, which happened outside a takeaway in Crewe Road, Alsager, at about 10.30pm on Sunday. Both have since been discharged.

Now police are appealing for help in tracing the attacker, who is white, aged about 25 and 5ft 7ins tall with a slim build. He was clean shaven, with short, light brown hair and a slim build.

PC Bruce Clark, of Cheshire Police, said: “This was an appalling incident. The consequences could have been far worse.

“I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident and we are doing everything we can to establish who assaulted the victims and bring him to justice.

“As part of our inquiries we want to speak to anyone who was in the area and saw anything that may aid our investigation. Perhaps you witnessed the incident or saw the offender, either before or after he assaulted the victims.
