1968 Born in London 1979 At­tends West­min­ster school where he has a tal­ent for maths, physics and chem­istry 1986 Reads phi­los­o­phy and psy­chol­ogy at Pem­broke Col­lege, Ox­ford 1990 MA in graphic de­sign at London’s Cen­tral St Martins 1991 Be­comes art di­rec­tor of The Mod­ern Re­view 1993 Founds The Idler mag­a­zine with his friend Tom Hodgkin­son 1997 Es­tab­lishes Green Bo­hemia, the first com­pany to im­port ab­sinthe to the UK since the 1920s. Be­gins pro­duc­ing La Fée ab­sinthe in France 2004 Meets fu­ture wife Liz at Port Eliot Fes­ti­val in Corn­wall. She heard his first talk on clouds 2004 Sets up the Cloud Ap­pre­ci­a­tion So­ci­ety 2006 Pub­lishes The Cloudspot­ter’s Guide. Turned down by 28 pub­lish­ers ini­tially, it has now sold more than 400,000 copies and been trans­lated into 20 lan­guages 2006 and 2009: chil­dren Flora and Ver­ity born 2017 Fi­nally suc­ceeds in hav­ing new cloud type as­per­i­tas recog­nised in the In­ter­na­tional Cloud At­las.
