Sky gazing

The Simple Things - - ESCAPE | OUTING -

Ostensibly just a hole in the roof of a building – old or new, underground or not – through which to view the heavens, American artist James Turrell’s Skyspaces are gaining traction over here as one of the most meditative and moving forms of outdoor sculpture there is.

Since creating one in a circular drystone chamber in Kielder Forest in 2000, he has now built another three; at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and, most recently, at Cornwall’s sculpture gardens, Tremenheere, just outside Penzance.
