The best thing
A sense that the landscape is almost unchanged as time has rolled on. Pink and ochre houses, lopsided buildings, ancient churches. Almost as soon as you’re off the A12, you see your first creek. It feels like the low country, water seeps in here and there – clues abound; bridges over streams to houses and lanes that twist and turn despite the absence of contours. No wonder Constable loved it. The absolute definition of a beauty spot is somewhere that is still lovely to visit, despite the presence of other tourists. Dedham Vale fits the bill and The Sun is at the heart of it with a warm welcome, a sense of history and really good food.
