When it comes to fine din­ing in a beau­ti­ful set­ting, look no fur­ther than Con­rad’s Ithaa Un­der­sea Restau­rant in the Mal­dives. This lux­u­ri­ous es­tab­lish­ment is the world’s first - and only - restau­rant that is lo­cated un­der the sea.

The Ithaa Un­der­sea restau­rant is part of the beau­ti­ful Con­rad Mal­dives Ran­gali Is­land re­sort. Their sun­set wa­ter vil­las, of­fer the ul­ti­mate Mal­dives ex­pe­ri­ence as the liv­ing room boasts glass floors, so you can mar­vel at the marine life as you re­lax in the lux­u­ri­ous sur­round­ings. If that’s not enough, you can also fol­low the Mal­di­vian sun­set from the master bed, which ro­tates 270 de­grees.

The restau­rant is sit­u­ated five me­tres be­low the sur­face of the In­dian Ocean. The walls are curved and trans­par­ent, giv­ing din­ers the op­por­tu­nity to take in the breath­tak­ing sur­round­ings of the coral gar­dens which sur­round it, giv­ing you have the op­por­tu­nity to en­joy an in­cred­i­ble meal with the sharks and stingrays, in the world’s largest aquar­ium tun­nel.

The food on of­fer brings to­gether the var­i­ous Mal­di­vian cul­tures, util­is­ing lo­cal spices with an in­flu­ence of Western cui­sine. This fu­sion of cul­tures is what makes the food so great, de­spite other in­flu­ences, the food still brings to­gether the best of the Mal­dives.

The restau­rant is open for mid morn­ing cock­tails, lunch and din­ner. Chil­dren are wel­come for lunch, but not for din­ner. So, if you do not wish to eat a big meal, you can still en­joy spe­cial­ist cock­tails in the beau­ti­ful restau­rant.

For din­ner they of­fer a six course din­ing ex­pe­ri­ence for up to four­teen guests. Served at 6.30pm, there’s a whole wealth of ex­cep­tional cui­sine on of­fer. This in­cludes a mag­nif­i­cent Mal­di­vian lob­ster carpac­cio for an en­tree, a main of cape grim beef ten­der­loin, with ap­ple and goose liver tortellini, fon­dant pota­toes, tomato av­o­cado and red wine sauce. End your meal by in­dulging in mango sor­bet to clear your pal­ette.

In April 2015, the Ithaa Un­der­sea Restau­rant will be cel­e­brat­ing their ten year an­niver­sary. The stun­ning, one of a kind eatery opened its doors in 2005, hav­ing post­poned its open­ing due to the tragic tsunami in Thai­land the year be­fore. Due to the place­ment of the restau­rant, and the fact it is lo­cated in such ex­treme con­di­tions, it is es­ti­mated that it can only with­stand twenty years un­der wa­ter.

So, now is the per­fect time to book a trip to the Mal­dives and cel­e­brate ten years of an in­no­va­tive, unique and beau­ti­fully built restau­rant. The restau­rant can be re­served pri­vately for breakfast, or for spe­cial oc­ca­sions such as wed­dings and birthdays.
