UNDERWATER RESTAURANT IN THE MALDIVES
When it comes to fine dining in a beautiful setting, look no further than Conrad’s Ithaa Undersea Restaurant in the Maldives. This luxurious establishment is the world’s first - and only - restaurant that is located under the sea.
The Ithaa Undersea restaurant is part of the beautiful Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort. Their sunset water villas, offer the ultimate Maldives experience as the living room boasts glass floors, so you can marvel at the marine life as you relax in the luxurious surroundings. If that’s not enough, you can also follow the Maldivian sunset from the master bed, which rotates 270 degrees.
The restaurant is situated five metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean. The walls are curved and transparent, giving diners the opportunity to take in the breathtaking surroundings of the coral gardens which surround it, giving you have the opportunity to enjoy an incredible meal with the sharks and stingrays, in the world’s largest aquarium tunnel.
The food on offer brings together the various Maldivian cultures, utilising local spices with an influence of Western cuisine. This fusion of cultures is what makes the food so great, despite other influences, the food still brings together the best of the Maldives.
The restaurant is open for mid morning cocktails, lunch and dinner. Children are welcome for lunch, but not for dinner. So, if you do not wish to eat a big meal, you can still enjoy specialist cocktails in the beautiful restaurant.
For dinner they offer a six course dining experience for up to fourteen guests. Served at 6.30pm, there’s a whole wealth of exceptional cuisine on offer. This includes a magnificent Maldivian lobster carpaccio for an entree, a main of cape grim beef tenderloin, with apple and goose liver tortellini, fondant potatoes, tomato avocado and red wine sauce. End your meal by indulging in mango sorbet to clear your palette.
In April 2015, the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant will be celebrating their ten year anniversary. The stunning, one of a kind eatery opened its doors in 2005, having postponed its opening due to the tragic tsunami in Thailand the year before. Due to the placement of the restaurant, and the fact it is located in such extreme conditions, it is estimated that it can only withstand twenty years under water.
So, now is the perfect time to book a trip to the Maldives and celebrate ten years of an innovative, unique and beautifully built restaurant. The restaurant can be reserved privately for breakfast, or for special occasions such as weddings and birthdays.
