Style Guide - S/S 2015
TSR’S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, ORLAGH MCLAUGHLIN, PRESENTS HER DIFINITIVE SS15 STYLE GUIDE
Spring/Summer 2015 is all about ruffles, denim, sheer and checked patterns, mixed in with simple classics like elegant blazers and crisp, cotton shirts. Here’s my list of must have styles to update your wardrobe with this season. The Denim Dress:
The hottest denim silhouette for the new year is the dress. Traditionally boxier, designers have now taken to the runways with stunning denim dresses in many styles. My favourite is the must have pleated denim. It gives the most feminine touch and works well with skyhigh heels for a night out or with moto boots for a more relaxed daytime look.
The Gladiator Wedges:
For summer, make sure you have a pair of gladiator wedges. Though previous years styles have leant towards a more minimalist version, bolder straps and ties are coming back with fervour for this year’s warm-weather months.
The Pendant Necklace:
Stash your statement necklaces after the new year and opt for one of the pendant variety instead. A slim, elongated chain with your pendant (or collection of charms!) hanging from it is this year’s go-to necklace style, which is both elegant and refined.
The Chic Doctor Carry-All:
A bag that’s both on trend and practical can be hard to find, but designers are coming to the rescue with chic, oversize bag options with a doctor’s style that doesn’t come across as too casual. Grab a luxe tote-size carryall in buttery soft leather or velvety suede. They are sophisticated and large enough to carry your life in but chic enough to take with you everywhere.
The Utility Skirt:
Army and utility dressing is relaxing a bit and comes to you this year in the form of shirtdresses and wrap skirts. This traditionally casual, menswear inspired trend is being reborn with a fresh infusion of feminine charm. Alexander Wang 2015.
In recent years we have seen many floral prints and 3-D flower embellishments in S/S collections, but this year check detailing is back in the style departments and fashion shows. Make a statement by dressing in checked patterns – the bigger check detailing you wear, the better.
Something Light and Ruffled:
Ruffles are the epitome of feminine charm, but you don’t want to look like you’re wearing a bad 80’s prom dress. This spring, wear ruffles in sheer fabrics with simple hemlines, understated peplums, and tiny accenting trims. Don’t go for anything too structured or stiff with these - it’s all about movement.
Accessorise in style this season, with oversized sunglasses. Wayfarer, aviator or oval-shaped frames glasses are all trending and make sure you spare no expense when tailoring the look to match your style.
