LEAGUE TWO side Elgin City secured their first three points in the Betfred Cup group stages with a 4-2 victory over Brechin City at Borough Briggs.

Elgin took the lead on the 11th minute as Brian Cameron found the run of striker Craig Gunn who slotted past keeper Graeme Smith.

Brechin got their equaliser on the half hour mark as Willie Dyer drilled a low free kick from the edge of the box past Stewart Black in the Elgin goal.

The visitors almost took the lead on the 39th minute but a good save from Black denied a powerful strike from Ally Love.

Elgin were back in stoppage time of the first half, awarded a penalty after Chris O’Neil fouled Chris McLeish in the box. Craig Gunn stepped up to the spot to calmly slot past Graeme Smith for his second of the game.

Jim Weir’s side got their third on the 61st minute as Gareth Rodger lost possession to Daniel Moore. Moore fed in Craig Gunn before he returned the pass to Moore who shot low past the keeper.

Elgin got another just five minutes later as substitute Darryl McHardy headed home a Daniel Moore cross.
