Season is over for England stars

-

ENGLAND seamers James Anderson and Stuart Broad will play no further part in the county season as they rest injuries.

Nottinghamshire sit bottom in Division One of the Specsavers County Championship and would have liked to call on Broad but he has an ongoing ankle problem and has been stood down by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Lancashire are also in danger of dropping out of the top tier but Anderson requires a period of rehabilitation on his right shoulder and will also sit out the end-of-season games.

Neither man is involved in the current limited-overs series against Pakistan, but would be expect to be involved in the forthcoming Test tours of Bangladesh and India.

An ECB statement read: “England seamers James Anderson and Stuart Broad will not play for their respective counties for the remainder of the domestic season.

“Both players have managed their injuries through the summer and a break from cricket is needed to best prepare the Test opening bowling pair for England’s winter campaign that begins this October in Bangladesh.”

Yorkshire’s Jonny Bairstow has been released from the England squad to play in the Tykes’ Royal London One-Day Cup semi-final against Surrey on Sunday, but David Willey is not fit after injuring his hand.
