Oldest junior future is on the brink

-

THE fate of Scotland’s oldest junior club hangs in the balance after a critical online appeal for funds fell woefully short.

Dundee East Craigie, founded in 1880, have been battling for survival since their clubhouse was ruled unsafe after last winter’s floods.

The life-or-death online campaign was designed to raise the £40,000 needed to keep 136 years of football history part of the national game.

But it realised only 1.6% of the target – £645 – with just 28 people making donations, in the month that the appeal was open.

Now President Ade Shearer has vowed to carry on trying to save Craigie, who are tucked comfortably behind the East Region, North Division leaders.

“It’s disappointing not making better inroads into the sum needed by we’ll be redoubling our efforts to raise the cash we need,” he insisted.

“It would be a huge loss to Dundee and Scottish junior football if the club was lost. Sadly it’s something that’s now happening regularly.”
